Gone Pie thrills with pecan pie and much, more more
As noted many seasons ago, vegan cheeses are popping up E V E R Y W H E R E. So much so I created a list to keep up with them near and far! That lives publicly here. Do you know any others that I might need to add on here? Thanks!
Speaking of vegan cheeses everywhere, let’s get Miyoko’s Kitchen here in NYC stores by letting them know we want them N O W. Advice on how to do that is here.
Guessing many of you have already heard the East Village is getting a new vegan spot in Avant Garden this year yet. I’m curious and excited about it. Hopefully, we will wrap 2015 with more spots than we’ve said goodbye to since a good handful are slated to open. Keep the faith and let’s see what happens.
Hey, wait a sec, what happened to the all-veg spinoff of ABC Kitchen? Did that open quietly? Get scrapped? Or…? Lemme know what you’ve read/heard about it…
I’ve been inspired by, and encouraged, that so many more chefs and cooks are offering more tasty vegan options these days. Including Chef Harold Villarosa of Insurgo Project; this nouveau non-profit works mostly curiously combining fine dining, multiculturalism, sustainability, education, AND the history of each NYC neighborhood. Check them out to learn more!
And thanks to Plant-Based Solutions‘ David Benzaquen, I’ve enjoyed some of Harold and his peers’ astoundingly great vegan cuisine. I continue to look forward to more of it, plus learning more unique bits about NYC neighborhoods’ ethnic histories. I mention Chef Harold + Insurgo now, because there is a June 1 benefit dinner that will provide a vegan dinner upon request (UWS) and this really does need more of our attention.
OK so Blythe Ann/e’s (aka Lula’s) vegan ice cream shop is open six days a week now. Their “summer” hours are Tuesdays through Thursday 3-10 pm, and Fridays through Sundays 3-11:30 pm. (They’re closed Mondays! because handmade greatness takes some time to happen, and all hard working teams need some recharge time.) Thanks in advance for let (visiting) people know about these hours AND the place is very much open for business!
Thanks Evan, and Anne for letting me know Daiya’s NY-style cheezecake is indeed in the metro at Back to the Earth in Park Slope and at least one of the Whole Foods.
Issuing a new vegan APB for NYC greater metro: Just Cookie Dough – made by the Just Mayo company. So sorry if this kicks off a new good+bad new habit for you!
