Delightful desserts by Brooklyn Rose Pastries (available at VSPOT Organic)
Stunned here. VP2 (aka Vegetarian’s Paradise 2) was the first vegan spot I visited in NYC almost 20 years ago with the quasi-ex. Definitely heard it was off its peak in recent months, so learning it closed wasn’t a total surprise, and yet still stunning that is in fact now gone. The GOOD news here is that we have a new vegan spot in its place – Go Zen! And guess what, it’s owned by the brothers behind Gobo!
As Steph (RoundUP’s new manager) and I prepared this, I learned we may have to say goodbye to one of our vegan ice cream shops, DF Mavens. Now curious to learn if YOU have seen their pints in any stores this year. Please email me if so.
This Tuesday, PLEASE join me and many others at the world debut of Jasmin Singer’s new memoir, Always Too Much and Never Enough. Jasmin is an incredible activist, mediamaker, and dynamo on the vegan scene. And has been for many years now. NYC is lucky to have her. Heck, veganism is. You may know her work through Our Hen House, or even from Farm Sanctuary back in the Supervegan days.
BIG thanks to all who came, and otherwise supported, Miyoko’s book signing & tasting Tuesday. This was my first event production in quite some time. And my nervousness and fear was so H I G H, it was crazy. Yet it all turned out quite quite wonderfully. Miyoko signed dozens of her Homemade Vegan Pantry and Artisan Vegan Cheese books; a few copies are at Moo Shoes now. Many people were introduced to her “phenomenal” cheeses, including her new Vegan FreshMozz. We were also able to sample her new Cultured Vegan Butter with a great many goodies courtesy of Riverdel Fine Foods. Also BIG to Miyoko’s Kitchen, VSPOT Organic, and Riverdel for supporting this production. I very much look forward to producing more events this year; they really do giving me life as the kids say these days. Please know the MK butter and mozzarella is in Whole Foods and natural grocery stores starting Monday. They can order through UNFI!
Speaking of special events, VERY happy that I snuck out in the snow to Mississippi Vegan‘s Four Course Creole pop-up Friday night. He’s a delight, and quite quite talented. The star for me was his Corn Grits Parfait with Roasted Tomato Jam. Please know he is looking to do a lot of things including a monthly pop-up dinner, plus more of the vegan markets in town. Check ‘im out.
Please know there’s a new quesadilla at Terri.
Speaking of menus… Here are the Valentine’s Day menus that have come across my radar as of this writing. Check here for updates ongoing; you can email me any you come across.
